Where dollars make sense: financial underwriting in the advanced markets
Article Abstract:
Financial underwriting is an important part of selling insurance policies since the insurance company will adopt the financial risk of the client. This aspect involves the determination of a potential client's risk from gathered information before offering the client a policy. The process of financial underwriting involves clearly presenting the policy to both clients and underwriters, determining if the risk will threaten the company's financial stability and documenting the steps leading to a favorable decision.

The Federal Reserve and investment policies for insurers
Article Abstract:
The Federal Reserve's monetary policy should not be used as the basis of insurance companies' investment policies because, though short-term gains may be achieved, those plans are vulnerable to changes in the monetary policy. Similar terms for assets' and liabilities' duration can enable companies to weather changes in market rates while funding long-term assets through short-term liabilities makes companies vulnerable to sharp profitability swings. Some long-term investment options are considered.
