Beyond Nuremberg: fifty years later, the debate continues on informed consent
Article Abstract:
The Nuremberg Code called after World War II for obtaining voluntary consent from subjects of medical research, and was a major step in the protection of human research subjects. It did not, however, end the controversy which often pits individual rights against the goal of finding cures for diseases afflicting many. A New York appeals court ruling in T.D. v. New York State Office of Mental Health on Dec. 5, 1996, came down for the rights of research subjects. Review boards at each institution performing medical experiments are the primary watchdogs.

Full-service career tracks: Texaco, others learn expensive lesson in equal opportunity
Article Abstract:
Diversity consultants and civil rights officials suggest that employers need to do more than offer workplace diversity training to avoid discrimination charges like those levied against Texaco Inc., the US Army, Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing and Circuit City. These employers and many others are learning how expensive race and sex discrimination in hiring and promotions and sexual harassment can be. Top management must be committed to equal opportunities, and audits should be used to ensure that diversity goals are being met.
