Beyond the typing pool; a legal secretary must be a computer whiz, law clerk, receptionist and confidant
Article Abstract:
Sole practitioners need a secretary who can wear many hats, serving as receptionist, bookkeeper, file clerk, law clerk, computer expert and confidant. The skills that distinguish a secretary in a large law firm often do not help in a smaller practice, so a job applicant's experience is often little help in finding a secretary for a sole practice. Personality is more important for a sole practitioner, and characteristics such as inability to work alone should disqualify a secretary from working for a sole practitioner.
