Article Abstract:
Critics of the increasing use of summary affirmances by appellate courts maintain that these give short shrift to justice, that they make further appeals next to impossible, and that the quality of appellate justice suffers, while proponents defend them as inevitable in swamped circuit courts and an appropriate way of disposing of meritless appeals.
