Calif. school says new ABA plan gives accredit where it is due
Article Abstract:
Western State University College of Law will probably be the first applicant to seek ABA accreditation following the ABA's June 27, 1995, consent decree with the Justice Dept. That decree, following years of widespread criticism of the law school accreditation process, should make it easier for Western State to get approval for its San Diego campus. Under the agreement, faculty salaries may no longer be considered, and access to library volumes counts for more than their sheer number. A total of 178 schools currently have ABA accreditation.

Do law school graders measure up? Top-tier deans and a rebel's lawsuit shake up the debate over ABA accreditation
Article Abstract:
Fourteen deans from prominent law schools are collecting signatures to support changing the accreditation process while the ABA is being sued for monopolizing the process. Lawrence Velvel, dean of a law school that is not accredited, filed an antitrust suit against the ABA in Nov 1993, which initiated a Justice Dept investigation. Though most deans support the concept of one authority over rating and standards of law schools, some are beginning to question the politics involved in ABA's process.
