Unabomber's pen pal: Ted wants a new trial; Theodore Kaczynski writes to law prof, enlists his help
Article Abstract:
Theodore Kaczynski, convicted Unabomber, seems determined to pursue a "2255" petitition to set aside his guilty plea. Michael A Mello, a law professor who has corresponded extensively with Kaczynski, fears Kaczynski would be almost certain of capital punishment were he to go this route. To prevail with a 2255 petition, defendants usually have to show that a plea was not voluntary and that they were coerced or a lack of effective assistance of counsel.
