Citizenship, free movement and health care: Cementing individual rights by corroding social solidarity
Article Abstract:
The European Convention (EC) of Human Rights protects the private space and autonomy of the individual by recognizing the rights to freedom of speech, religion and assembly to private and family life and freedom from discrimination and gives individuals rights as EU citizens to travel between Member States to exercise the freedoms of movement of persons, goods, services and capital. A discussion on how the general ideas of citizenship and social solidarity apply in respect of rights to health care is presented.
