Article Abstract:
The Employee Retirement Income Security Act's (ERISA) regulation of health insurance plans is discussed. Pre-emption is the most unsettled issue of ERISA law, and one which can greatly limit a participant's recovery. Congress may come before the courts in authorizing suits against health care plans.

Article Abstract:
New EEOC standards determining when law firm partners qualify as employees for enforcement standards are discussed. A test case charging a firm with discriminatory treatment of a partner may be imminent.

A tax law taking effect on Jan 1, 2002, enabling borrowers whose income falls within new expanded limits to deduct as much as $2,500 annually in student loan interest is discussed. The amount of time borrowers can deduct student loan interest also increases under the new law.
