Electronic group discussion
Article Abstract:
Trax Softworks' TeamTalk group discussion software is easy-to-use, and it organizes data into private and public topics that feature single or multiple threads. While TeamTalk is an incomplete intranet solution, it is a welcome improvement over traditional e-mail message folders. TeamTalk operates on networks and is priced at $3,400 for up to 20 users with an additional $59 charge for each additional user. The application features installed server and client software that allows workstation comments to be both sent and received. TeamTalk enlists the Transcript View to add new comments, and users are notified immediately of all subsequent replies. The program also allows users to convey their emotion or body language relating to particular messages via small insertable graphical symbols called Stickers. A comparably priced Law Firm Edition Installation Package of TeamTalk is available for medium-to-large law firms.

Making tax research less taxing
Article Abstract:
Research Institute of America's OnPoint System CD-ROM is an outstanding tool for those who need tax research, although it does have a few flaws. The contents include Pending & Enacted Tax Legislation, Tax Court Reported and Memorandum Decisions from 1954 to 1996, the Internal Revenue Manual: Audit & Administration and the IRS Letter Ruling and Memoranda for 1977 to 1996, among others. Users subscribe to particular portions of the CDs, and click on a specific product to determine whether or not the are allowed access to it. After determining a user has access rights, the system indicates which CDs contain the information. Unfortunately, the CDs are sometimes incorrectly labelled, making it difficult to find the correct one. The shuffling between various disks also makes it hard to maintain a broad focus while researching. The price varies depending on the set of contents to which users subscribe.

Rubber stamp eradicator
Article Abstract:
Alligator Software's $49.95 OverWrite printing tool utility is used to print a watermark-type message in the background of a document. It is used in conjunction with a word processor, spreadsheet or another application to replace rubber stamping documents to differentiate between copies and originals. OverWrite automatically loads the chosen message into the printer. The message will print onto all subsequent documents until the program is adjusted. Users can create custom messages or employ the more than 80 pre-installed messages. The program is only functional if the user's computer is loaded with the correct printer driver for the software. HP LaserJet IIP Plus and earlier printer users may encounter difficulty using OverWrite.
