Finding a pinch hitter; in case of emergency, don't leave work without designating a backup
Article Abstract:
Sole practitioners should designate backup attorneys so they will always have a substitute in an emergency. Many sole practitioners do not think of this until they apply for malpractice insurance, as most professional liability insurers will require them to name a backup as a condition for the policy so that, in the case of death or total disability, someone will be there to handle looming deadlines. Having a backup also seems an ethical obligation under the ABA Model Rules of Professional Responsibility.

Kissing law books goodbye; many small firms are retooling their libraries via new technologies

However, some prefer online services because of the frequency of updated information.
