Article Abstract:
The various services of the ABA Section of International Law and Practice are described. In a joint project with the United Nations Development Programme, the section helps strengthen the legal infrastructures in many of the world's countries.The section also has a Web site, several publications, and many pro bono programs to foster the rule of law throughout the world.

For the greater good; Division of Public Education brings the ABA to the people
Article Abstract:
The ABA Division of Public Education to increase public understanding of the administration of justice and respect for the legal profession. The division reaches over 5 million people annually and has over the years reflected changes in the way Americans learn. Many new venues besides the classroom hold its programs. A series of programs to provide law-related information and resources through the Internet are in development, one of the division's most up-to-date efforts.

ABA membership hits new high
Article Abstract:
The American Bar Association (ABA) membership of 404,698 is a record-high for the association, and new records were also established for financial strength. The year 1999 was the fourth consecutive one in which the association's membership increased and the second year in a row in which it set a new record for total membership.
