Michael F. Zendan II, the vice pres and general counsel of Muzak L.L.C., is profiled. Muzak makes the background music played in retail establishments and doctors' offices, and when customers on the phone are placed on hold. Zendan, the only legal employee, negotiates licensing agreements, contracts with vendors and sales contracts.
