Gang convictions challenged; defense says prosecutors didn't disclose two witnesses' positive drug tests
Article Abstract:
Government successes in ridding Chicago of the El Rukns gang have been overshadowed by allegations of prosecutorial misconduct. Defense attorneys have charged that prosecutors concealed evidence that could place their case in jeopardy, namely that two state's witnesses had positive drug tests while in custody. Prosecutors respond that they did not know of the drug test results and were in any case not obliged to disclose them to the defense.
