Golf course owner copied only the best; but the originals are not flattered by their imitator and have sued the 'dream' course
Article Abstract:
Three famous golf courses filed suit recently against Houston course Golf 18 claiming trade dress violations due to its duplication of some of their holes. The defendant, represented by Bill Durkee, says the holes were never patented or copyrighted and are not protected by trademark law. Plaintiff's lawyers James Gambrell and Stephen Trattner say Hole 18 is marketing their clients' reputations and using their names without permission, and point to the 1992 US Supreme Court decision in Two Pesos v Taco Cabana for support.

Judge races face abortion issue
Article Abstract:
Abortion is an issue in Texas' 1992 judicial elections, and is likely to a factor in future judicial elections in other states that never repealed their pre-Roe v Wade anti-abortion laws. Texas candidates are being scrutinized and targeted by both the anti-abortion group Texans United For Life and pro-choice Texas Abortion Rights Action League. The possibility of the Supreme Court reconsidering Roe this term has increased the importance of the abortion issue.

Lawsuit dismissal doesn't resolve care issue
Article Abstract:
A Texas court has dismissed a suit against Houston's Methodist Hospital alleging the hospital delivered too little charity care to justify exempting it from local ad valorem taxes. Methodist Hospital probably became the defendant due to its large size and fame as a heart surgery center. The larger issues of hospital accountability for charity care remain unresolved.
