Helms to Cuba: see you in court; law would let U.S. citizens sue those who use confiscated assets
Article Abstract:
US Senator Jesse Helms has introduced a bill to let US companies sue their counterparts elsewhere that profit from property seized by the Cuban government in 1959. Supporters say the measure recognizes the importance of property rights in international law, but opponents say it violates national sovereignty and would open the floodgates for similar legislation. Other efforts to use US courts to apply international pressure have succeeded in discouraging some activities, but the courts rarely enforce such laws.

The descent and rise of Ilan K. Reich; disbarred for inside trades, ex-prodigy rallies lions to argue for reinstatement
Article Abstract:
Former Wall Street prodigy Ilan Reich is on the verge of a comeback from his 1987 conviction and sentencing for the felony crime of insider trading. A host of endorsements from prominent NYC lawyers and executives, few of whom know him well, may not be enough to overcome objections to his reinstatement from two of the three members of a disciplinary panel. Only five attorneys disbarred after a felony conviction have been reinstated by the Manhattan Appellate Div since 1978, while dozens have been turned down.
