In from the cold: a suit makes public an old CIA tale
Article Abstract:
Inglewood, CA, businessman Erwin Rautenberg's case against the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and E-Systems Inc. charges the defendants with breaking secret agreements made with Rautenberg in the 1950s. Rautenberg claims the CIA hired him to run Air Asia, a cargo airline engaged in covert operations. The plaintiff feels the agency reneged on an oral contract when it fired him after E-Systems took over Air Asia. U.S. District Judge Richard T. Gadbois' imposition of an unusually restrictive protective order in a recent trial hints at the sensitive nature of this case.
