Libya wanted to make a deal; with Flight 103 families
Article Abstract:
The Libyan government tried and failed to make a deal with families of the victims of the Pan American Flight 103 accident over Lockerbie, Scotland. The deal offered to surrender two Libyan nationals indicted for trial anywhere the victims' families wanted other than the US and England. If the two were convicted, Libya pledged to pay damages out of the approximately $500 million in funds frozen in the US. Lee S. Kreindler, lead plaintiffs' attorney, turned down the offer.

Flight 103 victim's parents vow to fight on; at odds with other families, Theo Cohen's parents say they're seeking the truth
Article Abstract:
Dan and Susan Cohen have been bewildered by the legal system in their fight over their daughter Theo's death in the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. They refuse, however, to accept the answers many want to give them, and they insist Syria and Iraq were involved in the incident. On Aug 4 they reluctantly accepted $575,000 to settle a non-dependency case. They still say the legal system has treated them terribly, and they have misgivings about the settlement.

USAir crash reignites decade-old debate on issues of weather
Article Abstract:
The USAir Flight 405 crash continues the longstanding controversy on decisions to fly in the snow and use of de-icing up to takeoff. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations let the pilot decide whether or not to take off if there is ice on the plane. The FAA lacks authority to order airport closings. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says airport managers or supervisors decide on runway conditions and follow FAA recommendations in bad weather.
