Clients' defense victories beat odds; major wins for IBM and municipalities highlight NLJ's look at 1995's big saves
Article Abstract:
The National Law Journal's sixth annual list of the biggest defense wins in civil jury trials features 15 complete victories where plaintiffs had a real chance of winning significant damages, as well as nine honorable mentions. Cases in which the venue, type of action, or plaintiffs' counsel signalled trouble for the defense receive special attention. The winners include IBM's repetitive stress injury win, Vineland's NJ's defense against a claim that stemmed from a police chase, and a defense verdict in Lowndes County, AL.
