Article Abstract:
R William Ide, III, the senior vice pres, general counsel and secretary of Monsanto Corp, a life sciences company that makes food ingredients, agricultural products, and drugs, has charge of 130 employees worldwide, including about 60 lawyers. Both Ide and the Monsanto CEO say they do not believe in the idea of a headquarters and have made information technology a main priority. Ide predicts that Monsanto's biotechnology emphasis will keep the company at the forefront of intellectual property law.

Client memo embarrasses Dallas firm; Baron & Budd coaching of witness called improper
Article Abstract:
A Dallas case serves as a warning to attorneys to take extra care with the documents they turn over to opposing counsel. An attorney for the plaintiff in an asbestos case gave the defendant's attorneys a client memo that suggested strategy and tactics for plaintiff's presentation of testimony. Defendant's in the action used the memo to claim that plaintiff's attorneys were instructing them to lie in their testimony.

Fallout from Fla. fee deal; split among plaintiffs' lawyers could obstruct state tobacco settlement
Article Abstract:
Plaintiffs who won $11.3 billion dollars of settlement money from tobacco companies are tainting their victory with a fee dispute. Though the settlement calls for arbitrator-determined 'reasonable' fees, many of the firms involved in the suit have levied charging liens on the tobacco industries initial payment.
