N.Y. pay edge drops in 2000; that and more is shown by the NLJ's annual report: What Lawyers Earn
Article Abstract:
The levelling of regional differences in law firm salaries revealed by the National Law Journal's salary survey for 2000 is discussed. Silicon Valley law firms gave large raises to retain lawyers likely to leave for Internet firms, and this started a trend toward nationwide raises. The survey also covers public sector lawyers and law teachers.

Most lawyers benefit from boom; even public sector shows some improvement, though it's light years from law firm salaries
Article Abstract:
The National Law Journal's 11th annual survey of salaries in the legal profession shows US law firms to be in good health, continuing a trend which dates to 1995. Associates shared in profits and revenues, and profits per partner were healthy. Salaries for starting associates have also reached records. Although profits have not reached the level of the late 1980s, they are making a comeback. The survey is subdivided into partners, associates at firms of different sizes, and various legal specialties such as government attorneys and public defenders.
