Cases against insurers may hang on diaries, tapes; did an insurer commit fraud in defending against airplane crash lawsuits?
Article Abstract:
Government prosecutors hope to introduce a former executive's diaries and tapes of his conversations as evidence in an insurance fraud case against US Aviation Underwriters. The data sources may also clarify some cases stemming from the so-called Pan Am 103/Lockerbie case. The fraud trial involves a 1987 commuter-plane crash in Southern California, in which USAU allocated 100% of the responsibility to USAir without revealing its own financial interest in the matter.

United crash cases settle before trial
Article Abstract:
Ten more settlements have been arrived at in cases arising from the Jul 1989 crash of United Air Lines Flight 232 in Sioux City, IA. The doctrine of 'pre-impact terror' was thought to be a factor in the higher-than-average settlements, which bring the total number of claims settled to 211. Deaths in the crash totalled 112, and 184 were injured. Approximately 50 cases are still pending, including five in federal courts.
