Supreme Court rulings regarding the detention and deportation of illegal aliens are discussed. Detention can only be for a reasonable period necessary to bring about the alien's removal from the country.

Ruling puts IOLTA plans in jeopardy; legal aid funding deemed a 'taking.'
Article Abstract:
The 5th Circuit's ruling in Washington Legal Foundation v. Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation that a Texas IOLTA program violated the 5th Amendment bar of the government's taking property without just compensation is discussed. In 1998, the Supreme Court ruled in another case that the interest income is the client's private property for purposes of the takings clause.
