Do parents rights take precedence? Court must thrash out sensitive issue after years of neglect
Article Abstract:
Whether Washington state laws' permitting grandparents or any other third party to petition for visitation rights with a child violates parental rights to make child-rearing decisions is discussed. This issue will be considered in Troxel v Granville, scheduled for the US Supreme Court's 1999-2000 term.

The result of suits by more than 100 savings and loan associations claiming that the government breached contracts designed to ease the thrift financial crisis of the 1980s is discussed. The result of litigation related to Winstar Corp. v. US., the seminal case on this issue, is also analyzed.
