Article Abstract:
The issues protested at the World Trade Organization (WTO) convention in Seattle, WN, in Nov, 1999, are discussed. Demonstrators charged the WTO with protecting international corporations even as they made decisions favoring free trade to the exclusion of environmental protection and human rights. With such actions, the demonstrators charged that the WTO was also thwarting economic sanctions directed at environmental and human rights abuses.
