Professor resigns from St. John's and publicly airs a tenure fight
Article Abstract:
Steven P. McSloy has resigned his assistant professorship at St. John's University School of Law and written a public letter to the law school community criticizing the dean and faculty. McSloy, an expert on Native American law who seemed to be a rising star in the legal education community, was up for accelerated tenure at St. John's and became upset when some comments made about him at the tenure meeting were passed on to him. Dean Rudolph C. Hasl feels tenure procedures are sound but would like to find a way to prevent leaks of matters discussed in faculty meetings.

Harvard professor sees her win as benefiting all bias victims
Article Abstract:
Professor Clare Dalton has settled a sex discrimination suit over her denial of tenure by Harvard Law School. Dalton is now a tenured professor at the Northeastern University School of Law. The settlement includes an agreement by Harvard to help fund the Northeastern University Domestic Violence Institute with a $260,000 payment. Dalton will receive $60,000 of this sum as director of the institute. Harvard professes to be pleased with the settlement since it does not look like a payoff which might invite other tenure suits.
