In-house lawyers increasingly seek liability coverage
Article Abstract:
Corporate counsel, especially those of failing banks, are concerned about third-party liability findings in recent litigation and are looking into professional liability insurance. Potential liability has also increased since corporate counsel are practicing more law instead of managing outside counsel. Attorneys litigating environmental issues, those retained by publicly traded companies for the purpose of securities work and those acting as both director and general counsel may also be at risk.

What lawyers earn
Article Abstract:
Patterns of law firm compensation changed between the late 1980s and the early 1990s. Profits per partner at some of the largest US firms declined, while those for sole practitioners and small firms went up. The salaries of judges, government attorneys, law professors and corporate counsel increased. Associate compensation flattened, while public interest attorneys continued to have the lowest salaries in the profession.
