Some health reform is needed
Article Abstract:
Structural changes within the medical establishment are needed as the country now spends more on health coverage then education. Hospital costs are tenfold what they were 25 years ago while all prices have increased only threefold. The medical community needs incentive to produce more efficient equipment instead of simply improving what they have to keep costs up. Tort reform is needed and uniformity of accounting principles should be pursued. An increase in taxes to cover health care reform is not the answer. The problem is a structural one and should be addressed in that manner.

Economic policies and what they could mean to savings behavior
Article Abstract:
The balanced budget constitutional amendment and tax law changes may have a negative impact on savings, for example because government medical coverage and pension funds will have to be tapped if revenues do not meet expectations. Changes in capital gains tax on primary residencies may undercut the housing market while higher limits on individual retirement accounts may reduce the funds put in annuities. Reduced government deficits could help growth but only if the funds to pay off the debt are not diverted from crucial programs.

A new paradigm or an investment bubble?
Article Abstract:
Financial planning should include knowledge of the underlying causes of increases in equity markets and historic general economic trends. This knowledge can be gained through examination of various economic and social factors such as growth, inflation, and interest rates. Periods of unusually high rates of return should not be used to determine investments. Traditional standards such as investing 60% in equity and 40% in bonds should yield acceptable and reliable returns.
