Sticks and carrots spur fuller Y2K disclosures
Article Abstract:
The SEC published the "Year 2000 Issues and Public Consequences by Public Companies" in mid-1998 and the Year-2000 Information and Readiness Disclosure Act (IRDA) was signed into law towards the end of that year. By detailing the information required in public SEC filings, the former increases the legal risks of companies which fail. The IRDA provides assurance to companies which disclose in good faith that they will not be penalized, seeking to decrease the legal risks of information-sharing.
