Tackling taxis: first step? A 'libertarian' group has bigger regulation challenges in mind
Article Abstract:
The Institute for Justice is representing a group of Colorado taxi drivers in a suit against the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, claiming that their rights to due process and equal protection include the right to make a living and that Colorado is violating that right with its taxicab regulations. The state requires a showing that existing taxicab service does not suffice in order to grant another license. The taxicab drivers and the Institute contend that this requirement constitutes arbitrary and burdensome government regulation.

Malpractice epidemic is receding; booming economy, better risk management are causes
Article Abstract:
Attorneys who try malpractice cases and insurers and brokers who keep statistics on such suits think the trend is plateauing. The ABA found in a a 1997 study prepared with the help of malpractice insurance companies that the frequency and severity of claims against lawyers went up only slightly in the 1990s and that the frequency of claims has started to decline slightly. Legal malpractice experts attribute the decrease to risk management efforts, the conservative drift of the appellate courts, and risk management efforts.
