Temps and the labor market: why unions fear staffing companies
Article Abstract:
The US government may not be far from imposing deregulatory procedures to employment contracts in order to address labor instability problems arising from for-profit temporary staffing companies. These companies emerged during the post-World War II era when the need to employ temporary workers to do transitory projects was felt by private companies. Contradictory to federal insights, these firms are beneficial in rendering financial benefits to employers and firms while acting as intermediaries in labor markets. They also help companies hire additional personnel for conducting temporary projects, particularly during peak seasons.

The 1995 farm bill follies
Article Abstract:
The 1995 farm bill was passed to reauthorize farm support programs that will not drain government budget and burden taxpayers as previous farm legislation. However, the complexity of the programs called for politicians to intervene with farmland management and forego the original objective of the bill. Instead of recognizing the needs of farmers, the farm bill discouraged them from maximizing their efficiency and productivity, resulting to reduced competition and low profits.

How fair are the fair labor standards?
Article Abstract:
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) has become an instrument for vested interests, allowing politicians to manipulate and rig labor markets for political gain. Moreover, the restrictions on freedom of contract under the FLSA have only increased economic exploitation. Government wage regulations, such as the minimum wage increase proposed by Pres. Clinton, are increasingly reducing employees' freedom of contract.
