World Wide Web sites can be used for either marketing or practicing law. Web pages used for the practice of law are internal resources accessible only to employees of the firm and are called Intranets, while Internet home pages are accessible to those outside and are used for advertising. Some firms expand the Intranet idea by allowing their clients password accessibility to encrypted pages dealing with their cases.

There are more and more opportunities for lawyers to develop international business relationships. US lawyers can generate business for themselves by maintaining relationships with foreign firms or lawyers even if they cannot practice in foreign jurisdiction. However, some degree of knowledge of foreign jurisdictions' law and culture is called for.
