The hottest document assembly software
Article Abstract:
Capsoft Development's $99 HotDocs for Windows 4.0 simplifies model document building with powerful fill-in-the-blank templates in word processing programs such as Word, WordPro and WordPerfect. It also features HotForms Filler and a Clause Library function. The HotForms Filler program provides law offices with automated data entry in customized and official form templates for preprinted forms. HotForms produces sharp electronic legal forms that rival the clarity of printed forms. The fully integrated Filler feature shares the program's variables and component files. Scanning and creating templates from electronic and paper forms, however, requires the HotForms Automator which is sold separately or as part of the HotDocs Pro package, which is expected to be available in early 1997. HotDocs is a mandatory upgrade for users seeking to improve their office's document production capabilities with form processing and clause libraries.

Estate planner's computer toolbox
Article Abstract:
Matthew Bender and Co's California Wills and Trusts, and Texas Estate Planning and Shepherd McGraw-Hill's Drafting Wills and Trust Agreements (DWTA) document assembly systems both use the CAPS Author legal practice management software from CAPSoft Development as their primary engine. All three document assembly systems offer outstanding help for drafting trusts and wills. DWTA provides a broader framework and permits users to create wills and trusts for states with either community property or common law systems. The Bender products offer information specific to their respective states as well as information applicable to all community property states. The Bender programs offer more legal advice in manuals and online but focus on rapidly developing a first draft. DWTA proffers more legal options as well as flowchart analysis. The systems offer roughly the same number of clauses, but Bender's are more awkward to use.

Form creation made easy
Article Abstract:
Capsoft Development's HotForms integrates with Capsoft's HotDocs document assembly program to provide an electronic forms solution for both customized and standard forms. HotForms is available in the Automator and Filler modules for $399 and $99, respectively. HotForms Automator alters bitmapped lines and check boxes into vector graphics and it transforms bitmapped numbers and letters into authentic font characters. Automator automatically detects blank spaces and check boxes to simplify the adding of fields. HotForms Filler determines the answer's size when it inserts an answer into a field. Filler adjusts the font size to make the answer fit in various fields regardless of font size, but if Filler is unable to make the font size fit, it will place the answer on an addendum sheet. HotForms' electronic forms production requires significant processing power and memory to properly run complex documents.
