The time has come: time-billing vs. value-billing
Article Abstract:
The 'value-billing' business model, which involves charging a client for a task, is more cost-effective than the currently popular time-billing, or charging by time. Time-billing is subject to four flaws: it encourages lawyers to work inefficiently; and it focuses on time to the detriment of quality. In effect, time-billing puts a time-determined cap on how much money a law firm can make. And it damages the attorney-client realtionship because clients watch the clock, worring about how much they are being charged.

Reach out and call someone: the wireless telephone is an indispensable tool
Article Abstract:
Wireless telephones are particularly well-suited to the role of a lawyer as an advisor. Lawyers are in the business of providing professional services, and wireless phones are an especially effective technology for accomplishing this. Some lawyers feel that their workday should end when they leave the office, but it is best to tell partners and clients that it is ordinarily inappropriate to call at certain times than to cut off contact altogether.
