New cases, new West
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the 2d Circuit ruled in Matthew Bender & Co. v. West Publishing Co. that West's arrangement of its decisions and addition of facts such as attorney names lack the minimal creativity requiring copyright protection. The two related legal opinions can be found at www.hyperlaw.com. Hyperlaw was the party that challenged West's copyright in modifications of the text of the court's opinions, while Matthew Bender challenged West's claim to its internal page-numbering system.

E-litigation; linking to lawsuits
Article Abstract:
Hyperlinking and framing Web sites have inspired much litigation, usually on copyright infringement grounds, and drafting link agreements has become a new legal subspecialty. With suits involving the Internet and the Web jurisdictional issues can also surface, with courts refusing to recognize another's judgment in cases. Framing a Web site raises the issue of whether the framing site infringes the framed site by creating an unauthorized derivative work of the original.
