Ethical rules requiring adequate supervision of law firm associates are discussed. ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct 5.1(a) and 5.1(b) require law firms to ensure that all lawyers conform to ethical rules and have adequate knowledge for legal practice.

The proposal for an ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct rule requiring clients' written 'informed consent' to any conflicts is discussed. The proposal applies to several rules, including, 1.7, 1.9, and 1.18(d).

The author discusses the way some states sanction out-of-state lawyers who advertise their services in that state without being licenses to practice there.
