Article Abstract:
The need for attorneys serving high-technology and emerging-company clients to be available 24-hours a day is discussed. Some large law firms provide this service by using attorneys in different time zones, but smaller ones must hold their attorneys to taxing work schedules.

Making caring easier; attorney-caregivers call on support from firms as well as family
Article Abstract:
The increasing numbers of attorney-caregivers, the lifestyle challenges they face, and the support groups for these people started by some bar associations in recognition of this growing phenomenon are discussed. Several bar associations are reviewing a model policy for guiding law firms in dealing with attorneys facing care dilemmas.

Lunch on the rocks; separating out friendship and professionalism when socializing with the 'hired help' is crucial
Article Abstract:
A balance between friendships and professional decorum is needed for employees at various levels of a law firm. Socializing with legal assistants can be more accepted because their work is closer to what a lawyer does, but the same behavior with secretaries can lead to the impression that the attorney's role as boss is not understood. Discussion of personal life in the office can also be disruptive.
