Al-Jazeera wins freedom award
Article Abstract:
Al-Jazeera, the Qatar-based Arabic news channel, won a prize for best circumvention of censorship at the third annual Index on Censorship (IOC) Freedom of Expression Awards. The IOC's chairman is Michael Grade, former CEO of Channel 4. Al-Jazeera was given the award because of its independence in a region of the world where most media is government controlled, and because of its willingness to show opposing viewpoints. The broadcaster also an English-language website and channel.
