BBC1 targets ITV's autumn afternoons
Article Abstract:
BBC1 is to begin showing a number of new lifestyle and leisure shows in autumn 1996. It hopes that these will allow it to attract larger audiences than ITV, which is perceived to have weak afternoon programming. Additional resources will also be put by the BBC into morning programming, while the lunchtime slot will be dominated by repeats of imported drama series. BBC1 held a 36.3% share of the television audience for the period 12.30-15.30 in the first half of 1996, compared with 35.4% for ITV.

United eyes S4C DTT partnership
Article Abstract:
Possible digital terrestrial television (DTT) partnership arrangements are currently being discussed by United News and Media and S4C Digital Networks, which is currently bidding for a DTT multiplex. It seems likely that United News and Media will take a stake in this multiplex. S4C's DTT bid also named Yorkshire-Tyne Tees TV as a possible supplier of programmes, and this company is also believed to be interested in taking an equity stake in the DTT operation.
