Sky ties cable up in knots
Article Abstract:
Following several complaints from U.K. cable television companies that satellite broadcaster BSkyB was placing unfair restrictions on its contracts to supply programmes to cable channels, the Office of Fair Trading began a six-month inquiry into BSkyB's trading practices and its position in the pay TV market. The row between cable channels and the satellite broadcaster centres on BSkyB's wholesale rate card which require the cable channels to take all Sky channels in order to receive worthwhile discounts. Details of the review's findings are not expected before June 1996.
