Between the nation and the profession: Journalists as member of contradicting communities
Article Abstract:
The coverage of the October 2000 events in Israel is analyzed to explain the practice of journalists during violent conflict. It is concluded that in the first days of the violent and unexpected events, journalists did not develop a professional discourse and their belonging to the national community overpowered their membership of the professional one.

Imagination: news discourse, nationhood and civil society
Article Abstract:
The representation of the civil society in television news and its relation to nationhood is explored. Many discursive strategies to construct an overall image of national civil society are presented, focusing on the ways in which they intertwine both ethnic and civic conceptions of nationhood.
