C4 carries off UK's only Prix Italia
Article Abstract:
Channel 4's entry to the 1998 Prix Italia, The Granton Star Cause, has won the single fiction award, making it the only UK contender to earn an award at that event. The movie, which is adapted from a short story written by Irvine Welsh, is a 30-minute film commissioned by Robin Gutch of Channel 4's independent film and video department unit. Granton Star Cause, which was directed by Paul McGuigan, tells about the life of Bob Coyley who was expelled from his amateur football team, removed from his own flat, beaten up by the police, left by his girlfriend and fired from his work before God turned him into a fly.

Billett report predicts ITV spiral of declining ratings
Article Abstract:
ITV will continue to experience declining audiences and advertising revenue, according to a report entitled "The Next Two Years of Television in the UK." The report was written by Sue Stoessl, the former head of broadcast research services at BBC, for The Billet Consultancy, a media auditor. The study says the increasing competition from ITV's competitors such as cable, satellite operators and Channel 5, will further cause decreases in ITV's advertising revenue. ITV is also expected to lose more of its audience to its rivals, which have already increased their budgets to commission new programs.
