Digital victory
Article Abstract:
British Digital Broadcasting (BDB) reportedly won the UK's three digital terrestrial television (DTT) commercial multiplex licenses because of its cautious business plans, with the Independent Television Commission opting for established participants. BSkyB is required to abandon its 33% stake in BDB in order to avoid anti-competition claims, although BSkyB will still contribute its pay-TV knowledge and subscriber management expertise. BDB is a 50:50 joint venture between Granada and Carlton Communications (CC), with CC's Chairman Michael Green having been a consistent supporter of DTT.

WLIW21, which represents Program Resources Group, a 25-member group of public service stations that caters to 38% of the US market, will initially broadcast three 30-minute BBC world news bulletins daily.
