Edinburgh light
Article Abstract:
The 23rd Edinburgh Televison Festival, Scotland, included a number of sessions which failed to be exciting or discuss innovative ideas. ITN Editor in Chief Richard Tait was angry when repeatedly questioned about 'News at Ten' by Gillian Reynolds, who also interviewed ITV Director of Programmes David Liddiment. A talk on digital television from Elizabeth Murdoch was not well received in contrast to the MacTaggart lecture by Bazal Managing Director Peter Bazalgette. Some attendees questioned the appearance of Louise Woodward who was talking about the media coverage of her trial.

Edinburgh's coming of age: (Edinburgh International TV Festival) (includes related articles)
Article Abstract:
The Edinburgh International TV Festival has a new image for 1996 with an opening MacTaggart Lecture from BBC director general John Birt. The EITF was orginally a forum for radical debate between writers, producers and directors, but festival chair Mark Thompson believes that Edinburgh should be maintained as an event for all-comers. It will tackle issues such as job insecurity and will feature a more personal approach to the BBC session. Some issues are discussed by those taking part in the Edinburgh debate.
