Firm of 4
Article Abstract:
John Willis, director of programmes for Britain's television Channel 4, will concentrate on building up Channel 4's programme content under its formula reform programme. He has 265 million pounds sterling to revive viewing figures and to ward off criticism that the channel does not serve its intended purpose. He will spend 80 million pounds sterling during Autumn 1996 and intends to ensure a good service for 1997. Some alterations to personnel and programming will be made, says Willis.

TV's filmed follies
Article Abstract:
The UK television industry has become a leading investor in film-making. The audience share taken by films is generally in line with the overall peak performance of the channel concerned, with the exception of 'Film on Four,' which performs particularly well. Filmed drama is much more expensive to produce than ordinary programming, and it is therefore strange that the BBC hardly ever repeats its films. Furthermore, the BBC's policy for showing new films seems to be very confused.
