GWR urges relaxation of radio ownership rules
Article Abstract:
GWR Group has recommended to broadcasting minister Janet Anderson the revision of existing regulations on commercial radio ownership. The group's report, which was done by KPMG as a response to the Regulating Communications Green Paper of the Government, is pushing for the amendments to help boost the ability of radio groups to compete in the European and global markets. The report also pointed out that the existing rules hamper the growth of radio groups and prevent economies of scale. Specifically, the report recommends the abolishment of the licence points system and be replaced by market share ownership regulations which is similar to the ones used in the TV business.
