UK animators are hoping to break into the television market which is dominated by US film makers, such as the Simpsons. The 1998 Vital International Animation Festival will launch an animated dog series, produced by Aardman Animations which makes Wallace and Gromit. Adult animation pushes the boundaries of programme making but needs time to develop into a series which audiences can understand and sympathies with. Animation programme makers are calling for broadcasters to take a long-term view of adult animation.

Television series 'Cop Rock' is one of several poor purchases made at the LA Screenings, the showcase for new US television programmes and network trends. Other titles which have not lived up to expectations include 'The X Files, Millenium', 'Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman', and 'The Cosby Mysteries'. On the other hand, successful purchases include 'Friends' and 'The X Files'.

PanAmSat plan for 120 India channels
Article Abstract:
PanAmSat of the US , a satellite company, is introducing a multi-channel, direct-to-home (DTH) television service in India in 1996. This would enable viewers to have access to up to 120 channels with the use of a dish and a decoder box. The new service will directly compete with India's growing cable TV sector.
