Hat Trick loses LE chief Hutchinson

Hat Trick has received the resignation of its Light Entertainment Chief Colman Hutchinson that signifies his opposition regarding the removal of the series titled Second Time Around, a dating show commissioned by ITV. The show, which was developed by Hutchinson the dating show and producer/director Patricia Mordecai, was cancelled by Hat Trick because ITV planned to broadcast it 11 pm or later. The show, which will star Ulrika Jonsson, was designed for an earlier evening slot. The revised show was found to be ineffective during its dry run.

Celador Productions may secure the contract for BBC 1's National Lottery Draw show, which is aired on Saturdays, after the end of 1998. BBC 1, which is currently holding talks with several independent production firms, could consider Celador considering its recent success with the program titled Who Wants to be a Millionaire? that it produced for ITV. Celador's managing director Paul Smith said the firm could handle such project in that magnitude with its expertise in the comedy and entertainment fields for the mainstream audience.

Bain gets divorce from Family Affairs

Reg Grundy Productions' Morag Bain is resigning from his position as producer of Channel 5's flagship daily soap, Family Affairs, following the departure of Mal Young from his post as head of drama at Pearson Television, the parent of Reg Grundy. Corinne Hollingworth, C5 controller of drama, will continue to oversee the program. Bain, who is credited for Casualty, EastEnders, and Dangerfield, will eventually work with writer Keith Temple to create drama projects.
