Radio retuner
Article Abstract:
It is very important to pick the right targets when planning an acquisition, according to Independent Radio Group (IRG) Chief Executive Michael Connolly. IRG focuses on radio stations which have potential for strong performance. With all the radio stations which IRG has purchased, mistakes have been made with the programming. IRG finds new management for these stations, makes them more focused and introduces new talent. It now hopes to be able to break even at all its stations and to raise public awareness.

Local calls
Article Abstract:
There have been mixed fortunes at BBC South's network radio department recently, even though it has been designated a 'centre of excellence' for its factual output. It is predicted to continue to see a fall in output. In the commercial radio sector in the south-west of the UK, there is considerable activity at Chrysalis Radio and at GWR. Other local commercial stations include Plymouth Sound, Pirate FM and Wessex FM.

Chrysalis chief to chase new talent
Article Abstract:
Chrysalis, which is involved in visual entertainment, music and radio, will place strong emphasis on attracting new talent, according to new group managing director Philip McDanell. It believes that its relatively small size will make it attractive to young talent, and that it also offers the advantage of being very focused. It is not certain whether it will undertake further overseas investments.
