Home supporters: unable to compete with Sky for major sporting tournaments the ITV companies and cable channels are increasingly luring viewers with in-depth coverage of local events
Article Abstract:
ITV companies and cable channels are increasingly introducing minor sports league coverage, offering local rather than national appeal. They often do not have the finance to compete for major sporting events such as Premier League football. Live TV is to screen the Rugby League World Cup live, with the BBC covering England's games. Channel One, a cable channel, has recently produced a documentary about dominoes and may consider providing regular coverage of the game.

Strong UK flavour to TV3's schedule
Article Abstract:
TV3, the much-delayed commercial channel of Ireland, is scheduled to be launched on Sep. 21, 1998, with the channel's programming slate showing a strong UK flavor with its range of programs from the United Kingdom. TV3 looks to secure a 6% to 8% television-viewership share in Ireland through its initial dependence on entertainment-related and imported shows. TV3 will be supported by CanWest, a media group based in Canada.
