ITC agrees plan with BDB and BSkyB

BSkyB and British Digital Broadcasting won the approval of the Independent Television Commission for their proposed limited interoperability between their respective digital services. The proposed agreement between BSkyB and British Digital Broadcasting, which ultimately targets complete interoperability between the their digital broadcasts, calls for the two digital broadcasters to provide limited electronic-program-guide access. The limited interoperability agreement between BSkyB and British Digital Broadcasting, which will be implemented when the two broadcasters start airing their digital television services, marks a partial settlement for their long-running dispute.

ITV shortlists four current affairs bid

ITV has shortened the list of companies bidding to produce the company's 60-minute current affairs program to four. Controller of news and current affairs Steve Anderson has already asked for more information, specifically financial breakdowns from Carlton Television, Granada Television, Twenty Twenty Television and United Film & Television Productions with Mentorn Barraclough Carey. The last day for the additional information is on June 4, 1998. One source said the request for extra information was made to know how the bidders arrived at the figures. Another source said ITV wants to know what it is getting for its money.

Spencer nabs Carlton sitcom
Article Abstract:
ITV's outgoing controller of comedy, Paul Spencer, has signed up for a new six-part sitcom entitled "Barbara" from Carlton Television. The new sitcom, which will be produced by Mark Bussell, one of the four original writers, will be produced in-house by Carlton's entertainment division and will use US-style team-writing techniques. It will be produced starting autumn 1998 and producers are currently negotiating with Gwen Taylor , the star in ITV's Duty Free and BBC1's Pilgrim Rest, to star on the show.
